There is something incredibly special about a destination wedding.  As a destination wedding photographer, I love the fact that practically everyone seems so more relaxed and calmer than a traditional wedding. I guess that’s the advantage of combining a holiday at the same time as your wedding.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of Joel and Steph who eloped to Airlie Beach, and Ty and Berlina who escaped to Denarau Island, Fiji.

Planning a wedding at an exotic location can be a challenge. It’s important to have the right team around you to make sure the day is as perfect as you imagined it to be.

Logistically there are some things you won’t be able to take with you, and you will need a local supplier to help with that.  Like your cake and flowers. But your photographer doesn’t have to be one of those.

Kat went above and beyond in a place we were both unfamiliar with. She really took time and listened to what we were after and got some beautiful and memorising photos. Her professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding.

You and Your Wedding Photographer

There are many reasons you may consider taking a photographer with you, here are a few.  

Regular Communication and Research. It is such an honour to be flown to another destination to help create lasting memories for a couple tying the knot, so we will do our due diligence to make sure your photos are exactly what you envisioned and that you feel 100 percent confident and comfortable with us.

During the lead up to Steph and Joel’s Airlie Beach wedding, we regularly communicated about their wedding plans and photos they liked. The day prior to their wedding I walked through the venue, and contacted the marine club to obtain permission to shoot there. The morning before the wedding I also did a drive around to make sure we got prime photography spots.

We will speak your language. Which makes communicating with each other easier, particularly if you are heading overseas. You will feel confident that we understand your plans and any photo requests you have. There would be nothing more frustrating than a photographer doing the complete opposite to what you are asking because of the language barrier.

Whole wedding party relationship building. Having your photographer with you gives them and your wedding party/guests an opportunity to get to know each other.

Three days prior to Ty and Berlina’s wedding, I flew into Fiji and stayed at the same resort. We did some pre-wedding catch ups where I made myself familiar to the bridal party. This was my first overseas wedding and I was both excited and nervous. However, by building relationships beforehand myself and the bridal party were completely at ease with each other and we had a ball.

Kat is INCREDIBLE. She captured my wedding in Fiji and was nothing but amazing. She didn’t fake anything, everything was very real and natural and I wouldn’t ever go to anyone else to capture my moments again.
Your wedding day just breezes by before your eyes, and having the wonderful memories she captured, from start to finish just helps me relive it every single day.

Sneaky Photos. The benefit of having a photographer with you for more than the ceremony means you will get some photos that you wouldn’t get from a local that is only with you for a few hours. Imagine some sneaky shots of you, your partner, and guests having fun by the pool the day before. Some photos on the plane, or breakfast the day after the wedding.
